Phonics

Chris Kelly

Phonics at The Grove Academy

Phonics is a method of teaching children to read by linking sounds (phonemes) and the letters that represent them (graphemes). Phonics is taught daily in EYFS and Year 1. We follow the Letters and Sounds content and sequence of learning. We use a range of resources to support our multi-sensory approach to the phonics curriculum.

For children who have not met age-related expectations in phonics at the end of Year 1, the curriculum is continued in Year 2 and if necessary, into Key Stage 2 with small group work.
